About The Program


One Weekend Course:

The weekend courses (Saturday and Sunday) will include coursework in American culture, history, government, family life and personal growth while providing an opportunity to meet other international students.  In addition each student will be required to complete a paper and a journal. The weekend course work along with the paper and the journal is required to ensure that all credit hour requirements are met. Click here for homework guidelines . A single successfully competed weekend course (Saturday and Sunday) will be earn the student 4 CEU's or 40 hours.   


Two Weekend Program:

New for 2010 -Two Weekend Program designed to give students further study in a focus area.  The program includes coursework over 2 weekends, volunteer hours and homework.  Successful completion of the program will earn the student 6 credits or 72 hours. The weekend course registration fee includes coursework, lodging, all activities and meals. The student is responsible for transportation to and from the course. For students who do not drive, convenient van shuttles are available from the local subway, train stations and airports. Registration is ongoing and must be completed on line. Specialty Courses:
CPR and First Aid Course - The CPR and First Aid course uses the American Red Cross guidelines. This course can earn the student 8 hours without completing the optional homework and 12 hours with completing the optional homework.
Water Safety- The water safety course is a one day course with hands on experience for child care providers. The student will earn 6 hours or .5 credit
TOEFL Review Course- This course will assist students in preparing for the TOEFL test.  The review course begins on a Friday evening and concludes on Sunday.  This course will earn the student 3 credits.

Each weekend course is different; sessions may include but are not limited to:
Nutrition, American History, American Justice, Psychology, American Culture, History of American Music, Language: Idioms, Belly Dancing, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality Industry, Harlem Renaissance, American Family, Educational Games, Financial Management: Money, balancing a checking and saving account, Interior Design, Self Defense, Fencing, Art Expression, Life Skills, Interviewing Skills, Stress Management, Children and Poisons, Time Management, How to write a Resume, Cultural Differences, Storytelling through Crafts, Cooking Classes, Caring for Special Needs Children, Careers in Tourism, Yoga,  Sports in America, Behavior Management, Capturing the Memory: Scrapbooking, Computer  Classes, and TOEFL review course.  The classes are assigned closer to the date of the course depending on number of registrants.

The weekend courses will be held in hotels near and around local airport, train and subway systems for the convenience of travelers.
